Mount Whitney backpacking. w/Matt, Darryl and others.

Mount Whitney is the highest summit in the contiguous United States with an Elevation of 14,505ft.  84 miles west northwest is the lower point in North America at Badwater Basin in Death Valley at 282ft.  At which we had to drive the day before in car that was having issues so we drove with the windows down.

The trail head starting at 8360ft.  The hike is about 22 miles round trip with a elevation gain of 6100ft.  Permits require along with bear canisters for food and poop bags to pack out. The trail is good and maintained.

We drove through Death valley and found a campsite after a days drive.  2nd day was above the tree line about 3/4 up and pitch tents.  3rd day was summit day with good weather. Return to pick up tents and get about 3/4 down from top.  4th day was return home.

Went with Darryl and Matt from work.  Along with Matts church group.
