Sawtooths w/ Matt and Charlie

The trip by far had the most rain and lightning storms seen within all the trip that I'll been on.  The storms lasting for multiple hours and with heavy rain, high winds with lightning.  The thunder lasting 10 second echoing in canyons. No tent footprint on REI quarter dome, bag staying dry, just slightly damp on top which is typical.

Charlie first time in Bivy sack ending up in recommending it after the first 2 night with rain.
Matt and Charlie packs weighting in at 22 and 21 lbs.  My pack was with 32lb, which includes a backpacking chair.

Timpanogos hike in July

Timpanogos hike this year at the end of July had to cross many snow fields.   Some people would not cross and turned back. It made it slow going, but was passable.  This was a solo trip.  Took some picks with the phone and uploaded to youtube.

Amtrak SLC to Glenwood Springs, CO. With my honey

Have  you every rode on  Amtrak for the day?  We have.
Decided to go to go for a ride from SLC to Glenwood Strings, CO.  about a 9 hour one way ride.
I could tell you all the details in this blog instead having youtube do it for me.
Would I ride again.  Probably not.  But we did it.

In a short summary...
  • 3 hours late leaving SLC.
  • Heavy show in SLC and Bronco (the scooter) got stuck on the tracks.
  • Had the lower level of car 612 to ourselves.
  • Visited the dining and viewing cars while traveling.  These where nice.
  • The seat after awhile where not as comfortable as they originally thought.
  •  Arrived at Glenwood Springs, CO.  1 hour after the other train going back to SLC left, so we had to spend the night at Hotel Denver.
  • We went out for dinner in the historic district.  Still chilly out.
  • Next day train is delayed 1hr going back to SLC.  We had the bottom part of car to ourselves.
  • Near Grand Junction, on the Colorado River.  Had 3 different group of rafters moon the train. After some research.  Found out this is the thing that one does if a Amtrak train goes by.
